Flurina Zehnder (she/her), born in Fribourg (CH), is a pianist and composer. With a great interest in scenic works, she has provided musical accompaniment for various projects ranging from theatre to video installations. With her collective Inter:stices (Valérian Bitschnau, vocals; Leila Vidal-Sephiha, dramaturgy), she creates projects that expand the usual concert format by addressing social issues and sometimes swapping the concert stage for the street (2024 DAS WANDERN, Brig; 2024 crieur. euse, La Neuveville; 2023 Oublis, Lucerne).
As a composer, she writes for small ensembles, most recently a half-hour feminist work for the duo Lis à Lis (Lis Marti, synthesiser and piano, Lisa Läng, voice) with a text by Kim de l’Horizon, which was performed in Bern, Biel and Zurich in 2024.
She can be heard on stage with drummer Damien Kuntz with their duo Ocean Explosion, which plays intergalactic mermaid punk rock.
She works as a choir director and piano teacher and is part of female classics, an organisation that promotes the dissemination of works by female composers.
She won the ‘Junges Lied Zürich’ competition in 2022 and the GMTH group improvisation competition in Salzburg in 2022 with the Ensemble Aspirateur spatial. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Creative Music Practice at the Zurich University of the Arts in 2023 and is now studying for a Master’s degree in Jazz Composition at the Bern University of the Arts.
